I would like to thank each and everyone of you who recently supported me in my campaign for Treasurer of the Labour party. I was overwhelmed to receive the support of over 41% of the membership and would like to extend a huge thank you to my campaign team who have worked tirelessly over the last weeks and months to speak to members the length and breadth of the country.

On Wednesday and Thursday next week, the two biggest unions in the public sector will hold national strikes in England, Wales and Northern Ireland over the latest Local Government pay offer. This is over a below inflation rate offer of only 2.45% being made by the employers. Inflation is up by 4.3%, Food is up 6%, transport 7%, mortgages 8%, electricity and gas 15%. 2.45%? It does not add up. Pay in the private sector is rising by 4%. Some 600,000 UNISON workers are due to go on strike. Most Town hall services and many schools will be closed.
So the madness continues. In less than two years we will face a general election and the only Political Party that does actually give a damn about public sector workers is trying to gain their support by cutting their pay? Does anyone think that this offer will really appease the Tory press? Is this really “evidence based government”? Or is this the beginning of the 2nd longest suicide note in history?

All CLPs and national affilated organisations have now been sent their NEC nomination forms, which include the position of Treasurer of the Labour Party. The editorial team at Labourhome.org is backing one of our own, Mark McDonald, a human rights barrister and former NUPE shop steward.
We're not just backing Mark to win, we need him to take a powerful mandate to the NEC to enable him to raise the bar on the party's compliance with its financial obligations.
So we're asking you, today, to email your CLP secretary, and your unions and affiliates, to ask them to nominate Mark for this position.

Tribune today has a dramatic article about Labour Party attempts to reschedule up to £14 million of loans, and that NEC members could be personally liable for the debts if legal action is taken. Apparently a last resort of converting the party into a limited company is being considered by some, to protect the NEC members from liability!
